“So, what’s going to be for tonight?”
A group of adolescents went to a well refined, new building for some important occasion. Inside, it looked like a studio. Furniture covered with newly white cloth. Windows closed, covering with silky white curtains. The room had a huge empty space for recreational activities such as practicing some songs for the band. Everyone placed their things on one side, removing the white cloth covering the furniture. Others began to set up those expensive instruments and equipment related to audio-visual. As they took out the cloth, dust came out, made them sneeze.
“Watch it, you know.”
Once everything is set, four people jumped in to the sofa, stretched their bodies. One of them began to lay his head on his right side.
“Are you sure that we’re practicing for the whole night?”
“We should be practicing right now. Procrastinate time, later. ”
The four took out their musical instruments, began practicing the chords.
“Ready? One, two… One, two, three –”
The music was played. It filled the entire building, even some houses near to it. The voices of those men blended in, laughed and giggled as one of them beat the drums, heard few tapping sounds.
Few hours past, they went to the dining table, preparing for their late dinner. While the two prepared, the others chatted about the past events.
“—Girls screaming, shouting and cheering… Man, miss those days.”
“Not only that, some of them even fainted.”
“Fainted?”
“You didn’t notice, did you?”
“How do I suppose to know since almost a million or so attended, plus, we had several concerts—”
For awhile, the table’s set, food came, had a swell dinner. After dinner, one went to the living room, opened the window. Cool breeze came in. He took out his cigarette and his lighter. Another one came, asked for company.
“I wouldn’t mind.”
Meanwhile, in the dining table, the remaining two cleaned up the entire area. One washed the dishes as the other wiped the table.
“Um. I was thinking—”
Both of them paused, knew where the discussion going through. He continued.
“About that, what if our friend is really dead?”
The other laughed, patted his shoulder as he placed the washed dishes to a large container.
“Everything would seem to be different, of course, but—”
“But what?”
“Oh nothing. It just that ever since that issue came, the fans think that he’s on that scene—”
“Burning… Lost his teeth… Disfigured… Decapitated—”
“Whoa, so much imagination you got there.”
“Can we not talk about it?”
In the living room, as those two men enjoyed the cold breeze, the man who had a cigarette asked his friend upon seeing his sober face.
“Miss Home?”
“Pretty much.”
He smirks. “Anyhow, how’s death chasing you?”
Hearing that kind of a joke, he looked at him, smiled a little, replied:
“Let’s just say that he’s still after me. Never gets tired of it.”
“Right.”
“It’s a worst joke, you know.” He mentioned with a serious look.
Silence came. They’ve never felt like this before ever since the group went to the Alps for the filming.
“It’s still October and it’s getting cold.”
“Yet, so many things that we needed to fold.” He added.
“Fold?”
“Oh, just forget what I’ve said.”
“Very well.”
They paused once again, began to think something to procrastinate time. Then, he asked:
“About the conspiracy, what if I am dead, what will happen?”
“You? Dead?”
“I’m serious.”
“Oh. Ehem. Things will turn out differently. No one’s going to play the piano besides the two of us and the bass… and the people out there will mourn for you.”
“I see.”
Both of them felt uneasy after that short talk. As the cigarette became short, he threw it outside, reminded:
“Can we not discuss about it anymore? It’s quite… disturbing.”
“Alright then.”
In the middle of the night, as everyone went to bed, strong winds came in to their rooms. They felt the cold, heard the creepy whooshing and swooshing sounds.
Next day, as they prepare once again for practice, they noticed that someone’s missing.
“That’s odd.”
“What do you mean odd?”
Looking in the surroundings, something is not present.
“He wasn’t here!”
The three was stunned, began to call his name. No response. They called once again, yet, no reply. They immediately stormed to the room where their friend slept last night, found out that the room is empty, neatly kept. The bed, pillows and the blankets looked new, with no folds. Cabinets and a table were cleared out, not even used. Moments later, they realized, then, completely bothered.
—THE END (?)—
